Square, hard, dark brown, slightly shiny candies („Zeltli“), sized 18x18 mm.
Ingredients: Condensed milk sweetened, sugar, glucose syrup, whole cream ("Nidel" in the local Swiss German dialect). No preservatives or additives!
A look into the old recipe collections reveals more than 100 years of production of Nidelzeltli. Also in the producer's documents it says that as early as 1839, homemade Nidelzeltli were regarded by young and old as an appreciated sweet treat.
The idea to make the Appenzeller Nidelzeltli from condensed milk came after the World War II. At that time, large quantities of condensed milk were still stored in private households, bakeries and pastry shops because they had been accumulated during the war as part of the compulsory stockpile. After the austere war years, there was also a great desire and demand for sweets.
The Appenzeller Nidelzeltli have been manufactured by the company Tanner 212 from Herisau in the Canton Appenzell for more than 50 years.
The packaging contains 100 grams (plastic bag) or 200 grams (tin can) and is decorated with a typical Appenzell motif, an alpine dairyman in a traditional costume. The product has been taken into the inventory of the Culinary heritage of Switzerland and is therefore a great gift for all Swiss fans.
Important: Don’t bite into the candy, let it melt in your mouth to develop its fine aroma. Not suitable for children under 3 years.
